This guide explains how to edit, create, and manage Timed Items in AircraftMX to track time-based maintenance intervals, inspections, and life-limited parts.
Overview
Timed Items track all time-oriented maintenance requirements for your aircraft, including inspections, recurring services, and component replacements. If you set up your aircraft with a maintenance template, this list is pre-populated with common items based on your aircraft's make, model, and serial number.
The Timed Items system is flexible—you're not limited to predefined templates. Part 91 operators especially have latitude in setting maintenance intervals, so you can customize timers to match your specific maintenance preferences.
Accessing Timed Items
From your aircraft dashboard, click on the Timed Items tab to view your list of tracked maintenance items. Each item displays its current status, last completed date, and next due information.
Editing a Timed Item
To modify an existing timed item:
- Click on the item in the list to open the detail view.
- Click Edit to access the configuration options.
Available Settings
Title and Group – Change the item name or reassign it to a different category.
Calendar Interval – Set a time-based requirement (for example, every 7 years). Choose between exact calendar cycle or end-of-month cycle (useful for annual inspections).
Time-Based Interval – Set an hours-based requirement and select which timer to use (commonly flight time or tach time).
Recurring vs. One-Time – Most items are recurring, but you can mark one-time items for single-occurrence tracking.
Estimated Budget – Enter an estimated cost for the service. Aircraft MX uses this for budget forecasting based on your average annual flight hours.
Last Completed Information – Enter the date and flight time when this item was last completed. This can also be updated automatically by linking logbook entries.
Due Soon Alert Settings – Adjust when items appear as "due soon" (default is 60 days or 15 hours before due).
Related Items – Link the timed item to related equipment, airworthiness directives, or service bulletins to keep records synchronized.
Updating Last Completed Information
You can update when an item was last completed in two ways:
- Manually – Enter the completion date and flight time directly in the edit view.
- Automatically – Link a logbook entry to the timed item during the logbook review process, which will automatically update the last completed and next due information if it is newer than the current information.
Once you enter or link the last completed information, Aircraft MX automatically calculates the next due date and flight time based on your configured intervals.
Creating a New Timed Item
To add a custom timed item:
- Click Add New from the Timed Items list.
- Fill out the item details including title, group, intervals, and any related equipment or compliance items.
Save the new item.
"On Condition" Timed Items
If you prefer to maintain certain items on condition rather than on a fixed schedule, you can remove the calendar and time-based intervals. The item will remain in your Timed Items list for linking and tracking purposes but will display as "on condition only."
Budget Forecasting
Aircraft MX includes a budget predictor feature that uses your timed item cost estimates and average annual flight hours to forecast maintenance expenses on a monthly and yearly basis.
